EMVA and Khronos Group
Call for Participation New Camera API Working Group
The EMVA, leading European industry association dedicated to vision technology, announces the formation of a new Working Group together with the Khronos® Group, an open consortium of industry-leading companies creating advanced interoperability standards, to develop an open, royalty-free API standard for controlling camera system runtimes in embedded, mobile, industrial, XR, automotive, and scientific markets.
The Working Group will be hosted by the Khronos Group and is the result of an EMVA/Khronos-hosted Exploratory Group, held in 2021, during which over 70 companies participated to develop a Scope of Work document that will guide the direction of the API design.
Design work of the Working Group is expected to start in February 2022, and any organization is invited to join to participate. Read more ›

Kiran Ramakrishnan new CEO of Z-LASER GmbH
Effective December 20th, the Freiburg-based laser specialist will be led by a new CEO. Kiran Ramakrishnan takes over the position from Hans Ebinger, who successfully ran the company since 2018.
Ramakrishnan, 50, has more than 25 years of experience in senior management positions with global players in the semiconductor industry. He joined Z-LASER in spring 2021 to elevate sales and marketing activities to an international level. This gave him the opportunity to learn the company’s capabilities and earn the respect of the leadership team. When the position of CEO needed to be filled, Kiran was the candidate of choice for both the Z-LASER management team and the Exaktera Group, of which Z-LASER is a part. A handover program took place to ensure continuity of operations. Read more ›

TELEDYNE IMAGING
High Performance: Imaging for reliable engine block inspection
Polytechnik Schmidt relies on machine vision systems from Teledyne DALSA to inspect sealing surfaces of cast aluminum engine blocks.
The engine represents the heart of every automobile. Performance and fuel consumption depend to a large extent on the quality of the engines used, which is why all parts of the drive system must perfectly correspond to the design specifications. This also applies to the sealing surfaces of engine blocks, as defects negatively affect the tightness of engines reducing both performance and life span. Read more ›

SVS VISTEK
Machine Vision with focusable lenses
Focusable lenses can simplify and accelerate inspection solutions. They make industrial inspection systems more flexible in their tasks, faster and less complex in the application. SVS-Vistek now offers the new SVS-EF adapter, which enables the control of Canon EF-mount lenses directly from the camera.
Many current industrial inspection solutions still work with fixed focal length lenses. However, the trend here is toward more flexible solutions and the demand for focusable lenses is growing. An inspection solution should be able to be quickly adapted to new products or even better, in the sense of Industry 4.0 (batch size 1 piece), to adapt to the respective object. Read more ›
