The departments “Image Processing” and “Center for Materials Characterization and Testing” of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM develop mathematical models and algorithms for image analysis, primarily for industry software and use in production environments, as well as nondestructive testing systems. The application range of the department “Image Processing” includes challenging surface inspection and the analysis of microstructures. The department “Center for Materials Characterization and Testing” uses optical testing methods based on the spectral region from visible to terahertz and millimeter waves.

The overall goal of both departments is to develop, in close cooperation with partners in industry and research, custom solutions in the field of image, signal processing and optical testing approaches.
