USB and GigE cameras are based on latest 10-megapixel sensor
German camera manufacturer IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH has launched USB and GigE cameras that are based on a newly released 10.6-megapixel CMOS sensor from Aptina.
According to the company, this sensor provides four times the resolution of high definition television (HDTV). In addition, its 1/2-inch optical format enables it to capture even the tiniest details with a high level of accuracy, even with a large field of view. The new 10- megapixel models - like all uEye cameras from IDS - come with an easy-to-use software package that enables users to seamlessly integrate these systems with existing vision applications.
While the USB 2.0 camera models are capable of running at over 3 fps in 10 megapixel mode, the GigE models deliver up to 8 fps and can transfer full 12-bit colour depth. All camera models also provide area of interest (AOI), binning and sub-sampling modes for quick previews and live image acquisition. HDTV 1080p resolution is also achievable and so are frame rates of over 100 fps at smaller image sizes.
These cameras come with built-in scaling that enables image size reduction in real-time. In this mode the sensor can scale the image size in factors from 1.0 to 8.0.
Because the accompanying software package is the same for all uEye cameras, users can quickly and easily upgrade to the 10-megapixel models and integrate them with their own applications, says the firm. They can be easily implemented - users need only adjust a few camera-specific parameters.
The high-resolution models are supported by uEye software, version 3.50 or later. The software can be downloaded in 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows (including XP, Vista and Windows 7) and Linux, free of charge from the company's Web-site at the address given below.
