When running at top speed, Felsomat’s Flexible Hobbing Center 80, or FHC 80 in short, cuts workpieces in less than seven seconds, and even in just six seconds when machining two workpieces simultaneously. Starting with a smooth blank, the machine produces a perfectly milled planetary gear with individual toothing according to the machine settings. The FHC 80 achieves this ultra-short machining time partly thanks to an integrated loading system which, compared to earlier systems, requires less manpower. A production worker first loads the so-called “skewer table” before the hobbing machine can start work. In principle, no further supervision by an operator is then necessary once the machining program has been started: from this point on, the In-Sight vison system keeps an eye on feeding of the right blanks and can determine in but a few milliseconds whether the correct material is being fed or not.
