What drives vision specialists to join Standard working groups?
Why do companies support active contribution to Standard developmen?
Continuing its interview series the EMVA this time asked Mr. Silvan Murer, Embedded Systems Architect at Heliotis AG, about his motivation to join the work on standardisation.
Beginning with the development of our new camera platform for 3D measurement systems in year 2017, I was responsible for its software interface.
During this time, I got to know GenICam. Cameras with the standardized interface (GenICam) are usable out of the box in many common machine visions applications. Thanks to standardization, no additional device-specific information, like API documentation, is required and our customers can use our cameras directly in their usual environment. This reduces their development cost and our support efforts at the same time. Read more ›

SVS-VISTEK
Early fire warning by drone
Early detection is crucial in quickly and effectively combating forest fires. In case of danger, drones from Evolonic, equipped with an industrial camera and a lens from SVS-Vistek, provide firefighters with a valuable time advantage.
Global warming has led to an increasing risk of forest fires, particulary in southern European countries, which pose a significant threat to both nature and humans. According to a study by the European Forest Fire Information Systems EFFIS, forest fires are responsible for up to 20% of global CO2 emissions. In 2022, nearly 4,300 hectares of forest were completely burned in Germany, resulting in enormous damage to the economy and the environment. This event also released approximately 739,000 tons of CO2. Read more ›

AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY
Small Field of View, Big Impact: New XCS Sensor from AT Transforms the Electronics Industry
In the semiconductor industry, it is the smallest details that make the difference between success and failure. With its new 3D sensor from the recently developed XCS series, AT – Automation Technology is launching a product onto the market that is a real game changer, especially for high-performance applications in the electronics industry.
The decisive arguments for this are above all its optimized laser and its very small field of view of up to 2.08 in (53 mm). The most important feature of the XCS series laser is the homogeneous thickness along the laser line thanks to the laser projector‘s special optics. Read more ›
