Review:
EMVA Vision Night & VISION Show – Success Stories!

Jochem Herrmann, EMVA President, and Sayed Soliman representing the main sponsor MaxxVision, had the pleasure to welcome nearly 120 attendees for the traditional Vision Night. The Restaurant Plenum located right in the city centre of Stuttgart was well prepared to receive the machine vision community. In a casual setting VISION exhibitors and visitors exchanged ideas and expectations looking forward to three exciting trade show days.

With nearly 10.000 visitors the VISION show again grew significantly and confirmed to be the worldwide leading trade show for our industry.
At the EMVA organised International Vision Standards Booth this year the GenICam 10 years anniversary was highlighted. But also all other presented Standard activities were well received and interested visitors frequently discussed the new developments with the experts.

“We are very happy that all our proposed networking events around the VISION Show were so well attended. Looking forward we announced the brand new “Embedded VISION Europe”, conference taking place first time 12-13 October 2017 in Stuttgart, and got very positive feedback regarding this new EMVA initiative.” said Thomas Lübkemeier, EMVA General Secretary.

The BOREALIS EU Research Project:

FRAMOS Provides Vision System for Flexible 3D Manufacturing

Image BOREALIS began as a consortium of European partners including the Fraunhofer Institute, some renowned universities and other industrial partners looking to provide an advanced concept for flexible machines in new additive and subtractive manufacturing processes focused on the next generation of complex 3D metal components. Overall, the concept hopes to exploit a decade of advanced R&D results in mechatronics and laser processing. With 40% less energy, 75% less material, no final machining necessary, and zero faulty parts, BOREALIS is meant to revolutionize manufacturing.

The result will be a new machine that can operate with unprecedented throughput and efficiency, true net shape, closed-loop control and certifiable quality for large and complex products.

The BOREALIS solution will be conceived specifically for industrial sectors with extremely high manufacturing costs caused by the complexity and low volume of the components being produced and by prohibitive raw material prices. As such, the BOREALIS Project is looking at the medtech, aerospace and automotive sectors as major targets for its technological breakthrough.

COGNEX – World’s First Multi Smart Camera Vision System

ImageCognex introduced the In-Sight® VC200 series, a family of multi smart camera vision systems. The In-Sight VC200 series brings the proven performance and reliability of In-Sight vision systems to multi-camera vision applications.
Traditional multi-camera systems use “dumb” cameras that share the same processer, resulting in slower performance as more cameras are added. This technology limits today’s multi-camera systems to applications with simultaneous acquisitions. The In-Sight VC200 overcomes these restrictions because the processing power actually increases with each additional camera, expanding the number of multi-camera inspection applications. E2V’s new Emerald sensor family – the world’s smallest CMOS Global Shutter pixel

ImageFeaturing the world’s smallest Global Shutter, pixel (2,8µm) and high resolutions, the new Emerald image sensor family from e2v improves significantly system performance and decreases the cost of machine vision applications. Available from imaging expert FRAMOS, the new generation of image sensors allow cameras to perform better in high temperatures and in low-light applications such as microscopes, surveillance and traffic applications. e2v’s Emerald family has improved Dark Signal Non Uniformity (DSNU) by 10 times compared to previous e2V CMOS products. The first to be released is a 16 MP high-resolution sensor in square format (4096 x 4096 pixels), followed by a 12 MP (4096 x 3072 pixels) and an 8 MP version (4096 x 2160 pixels). Read more ›

FRAMOS – EMCCD Sensor Produces High Image Quality in Low Light Applications

Image The KAE-08151 manufactured by ON Semiconductor is an EMCCD image sensor that provides exceptional imaging performance in extreme low light applications and in direct sunlight. The 8MP sensor is obtainable from FRAMOS and features a very wide dynamic range and very low image noise. This benefits applications in ITS, surveillance, and scientific and medical imaging.
The square 4/3“ sensor features Interline Transfer and Electron Multiplying, combining two successful imaging techniques to achieve a dynamic range of 86 dB and low readout noise of under 1 e in Intra-Scene Mode. Read more ›
